On May 23, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Washington, DC, together with the Atlantic Council and Central Europe Energy Partners organized a conference entitled, “Securing Europe's Energy Future: A Transatlantic View.” The main speakers were, among others, Minister Piotr Naimski, Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure as well as Professor Zdzisław Krasnodębski, Vice President of the European Parliament.
“Poland highly appreciates the close cooperation on energy security it has with the U.S. Congress and U.S. Administration, therefore I am glad that we could hold this important debate here in the U.S. Senate” - declared Ambassador Piotr Wilczek in his opening remarks.
On the other hand, Minister Piotr Naimski highlighted Russia’s actions, which seek to wholly dominate the gas market through the Gazprom monopoly. He warned that these efforts will have serious political consequences for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
Among the speakers were Senator Ron Johnson, (R-Wisconsin), Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Sandra Oudkirk, and Reinhard Butikofer, member of European Parliament as well as experts from Atlantic Council and CSIS think tanks.
The seminar was attended by representatives of the U.S. Congress, Administration, diplomatic corps, as well as members of the media.
