Renewables, such as wind, are too geographically specific or difficult to convert to be economically viable, and all suffer from problems of intermittency. Current challenges necessitate realignment of existing transmission grid.

Capacity Mechanisms were designed by several European countries in order to ensure that electricity supply can match demand and potential black-outs are prevented. It becomes important to ensure that Member States are able to adjust their Capacity Mechanisms according to the state aid guidelines and guarantee that Capacity Mechanisms are here to stay.
